DR. WADE SHAW

Wade H. Shaw, Jr. is a Professor of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering in the College of Engineering at the Florida Institute of Technology. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers cited for his work in engineering management and education. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Engineering Management Review and Associate Editor for the Transactions on Mobile Computing . He has served as Associate Dean of Technology in the College of Engineering, Chair of the Engineering Management Program in the College of Engineering, and Chair of the Technology Management Program in the School of Management. His areas of teaching, consulting, and research includes engineering & operations management, simulation modeling, quality, project management, and product/process improvement. He has published over research 60 papers and his research work has been supported by industry, NSF, DoD, ARPA, NIST, and SRC.

Dr. Shaw's consulting practice generally addresses the application of product and process improvement in organizations that deliver products and services to customers that demand high quality. He uses process modeling, simulation, stakeholder requirements analysis, and organizational development tools to help companies deliver value to their customers. His clients have included Rockwell, Harris, Northrop-Grumman, Boeing, Encore Computer Corp., EG&G, NASA, Collins, Piper, the US Army, the US Air Force, and numerous smaller companies, government agencies, and civic organizations. He currently chairs the Technology Advisory Board of Airwire.net, a broadband digital wireless corporation. He offers seminars and lecture series annually and completed a tour of Central America in 2003 to speak with universities and industry leaders about leadership issues in engineering practice.

Dr. Shaw is currently a member of the Educational Activities Board of the IEEE and served as the 2000 & 2001 President of the Engineering Management Society. He is a Distinguished Lecturer in Engineering Management for the IEEE and served two years on the Technical Activities Board. He is a Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence and his interests and expertise in engineering, teaching and educational delivery were used in the 1999-2000 design and construction of the F. W. Olin Advanced Engineering Complex at Florida Tech. He was awarded the Millennium Medal in 2000 for his contributions to the field of engineering and technology management.

His views on trends and the future of technology were recently included in the millennium celebration book titled Engineering Tomorrow published in January of 2000 and the book has been cited by several editorial boards for its contributions. Dr. Shaw has participated in the formation of five companies. Prior to his coming to Florida Tech in 1989, he served as a Major in the US Army Signal Corps, served on the faculty of the Air Force Institute of Technology, the University of Dayton, and Clemson University.

Dr. Shaw completed a BS in Electrical Engineering (1977), a MS in Systems Engineering (1978) and a PhD in Engineering Management (1985) all from Clemson University. He is a registered professional engineer in Florida, Ohio, and South Carolina. He lives with his wife Susan and their sons in Melbourne, Florida.
